Liebe Ziraát-Freunde,
das internationale Team Ata'allah, Fazl'Mai, Nehmat, Raqib, Safed, Tasnim und
Zebunissa haben die erste Ausgabe des Internationalen Ziraát-Newsletter „Bridging Worlds“
fertiggestellt. Hauptsächlich Nehmat aus Australien, eine der beiden Vice-Presidents für
Nordamaerika und Oceanien hat dafür die Hauptarbeit übernommen. Zweimal jährlich soll der
Newsletter erscheinen. Er liegt auf Englisch vor. Die Artikel sind in der Dropbox abgelegt
und können dort auch auf Deutsch gelesen werden. Wir bemühen uns, die Anfangsprobleme die
es mit der Software noch gibt, bald zu bewältigen.
Besonders hinweisen möchte ich auf die “Roots and Shoots” – Serie, in deren Rahmen
übermorgen, Freitag 13. February, 21.00 Uhr, ein Abend mit Thema “Das Wasser als Quelle
unseres physischen und spirituellen Lebens feiern“, gestaltet von einem Team: (Celebrating

Message from Editors
Over the past few years the Inayatiyya Ziraat Community has reached out internationally
over Zoom fostering new friendships and connections. This Newsletter takes us one step
further in friendship and provides a platform to discover the many and varied ways our
Ziraat Service manifests around the world - sharing information and discovering what
interests and inspires us.
Bridging Worlds
We see this Ziraat newsletter as a bridge between countries and geographical regions, as
well as to the unseen worlds and spiritual planes, hence the proposed name, "Bridging
Worlds". This name also links back to the Ziraat newsletter that was produced in Pir
Vilayat's time with the title "Rainbow Bridge" - from 1986-1993.

this first edition, spirals are mentioned in several places and we are reminded of our
place in the cosmos, the many cycles that influence our daily life, our Ziraat cycle of
work on the farm and the natural cycles of birth, life, death and the journey beyond. The
outer circle illustrates our inter-connection and inter-dependence with all of life and
unity with the ONE.
The Maori koru is a symbol of new life, new beginnings, growth, peace and happiness.
Grandmother Jamia Haqq, (Experienced Farmer, Aotearoa) offers this symbol as a special

When we look at the world we see that everything makes a circle. The plant grows from the
seed to its developed state and returns to dust. Human beings grow from childhood to
youth, to maturity, then to old age. This, it is said, is an argument for our passing
through many lives. But it is not the circle that journeys but the point which,
journeying, forms the circle and returns to the place from which it started. It is the
consciousness that performs the journey at all times, and not the individual soul.
The drops of water in a fountain go up, some higher, some lower, some go a very little
way, some rise very high. When each drop falls down it sinks into the stream, flowing away
with it, and does not rise again, although the water of the same stream rises again and
falls again in drops – which proves to us the fact that the water has a continual rise and
fall, not the drop, yet apparently it rises and falls as drops though the portion of water
in every drop is different.
The wheel of evolution is such that the consciousness gradually evolves through rock,
tree, animal, to humanity. When it reaches humanity it cannot manifest further toward the
surface because through this journey all its force is spent. Human beings are the most
active beings, they have to do with most things. A rock has very little activity; it lasts
long. A tree has a little more activity and its life is not so long as that of a rock.
There are many animals which live longer than human beings. Humanity has the most
activity, and in humanity consciousness reaches the highest point of manifestation.

We usually think in terms of self - IN as what is inside and other - as what is OUTSIDE.
Nature is outside. Self is inside. Separate thinking.
* One way to look at nature is that it is the place where inside and outside are
one.
In this practice: we bring the “outside” IN on the in-breath
and on the out-breath the “inside” merges with the "outside". There’s not a
particle of difference between inside and inside. Only what the mind has created. The
Buddhists call it "Big Mind". It is always present, immaculate and sparkling.
All we have to do is bring our attention to its presence. We could call it nature and we
can sense the presence of nature in each breath.

* Salima is the Ziraat Representative for Austria.
* Lodges are held regularly around the time of the solstice/equinox or New Moon.
* At the end of 2025, Salima was exploring the resonance in the spirit of the Advent
Season and pregnancy as an archetype in the process of embodiment.
* For the New Moon on 18th January this year, a Ziraat Lodge was held at the stone
Labyrinth Circle near Lake Wörthersee.
* Salima has submitted an article, called the Power of Creating, about the crafting of

called the Lady and the

This alchemical work connects Ziraat with a focus on the seed, planted within the five
senses and accompanies the phases of opening the heart. These tapestries are displayed at

and artwork. These are now translated into English, German, and Dutch, and she expresses
her grateful to all the translators. Some of her artwork and a music selection are
included in this newsletter in the the Creative Work section.
* In her Ziraat work, Fazl'Mai sometimes offers walks and excursions, the
‘Z-Walks’, with different themes each time. She's always inviting people to come to
her home to Brittany to discover the power of different sites there.
* Sowing Seeds of Friendship, is a Ziraat Retreat which will be held at the Khanqah in
Suresnes, 29-30 June 2026. More information will follow in March.

* Safed was recently appointed as the Country Representative - for Ziraat, and has
started networking. She intends to create fields of shared experience and enable an
active Ziraat field to continue to develop.
* She led a Lodge Ceremony for the Winter Solstice via Zoom in order to sow healing
seeds together in the field of the New Year.
* In 2026, Safed would like to offer a series of online services. In addition, she is
thinking about creating a Ziraat web-page with a member's area for internal Ziraat
announcements and a chat function etc.
* Safed has submitted some art and an article for the Creative Works section of the
newsletter called Ziraat - the door to creativity.

* The Ziraat Representative for Netherlands and Belgium is MehrunNisa.
* MehrunNisa is offering a variety of practices both for people who are initiated in
Ziraat and those who are not. Twice a year – once in Netherlands and once in Belgium the
Ziraat Lodge is embodied in a full-day program with a Universal Service, sometimes
followed by one of the 40 Rules of the Chivalry. And then twice a year, a Ziraat activity
is embedded in a Friendship Day, again once in Belgium and once in the Netherlands,

* In Oceania, we offer Ziraat Lodges online via zoom on the 4th Wednesday of the month
at 7pm NZST. We alternate the leadership of the lodges, which are generally informal

The Spiral: The Meaning of the Oldest Spiritual Symbol

The spiral symbol is one of the oldest geometric shapes found in almost every culture
worldwide, and we know of several rocks from the Neolithic era on which this symbol can be
seen carved. Drawings or carvings of spiral symbols have also been common on tombs and
gravestones.
It is often found in nature and can be observed in the arrangement of the solar system,
the celestial galaxies and even in the body shapes of terrestrial plant species and animal
organisms....Thus, the spiral symbol in various forms was one of the most important
symbols of the Celts, and they used it as a single, double, but also as a triple spiral

placed in “Europe Park” near the Lake Wörthersee,
in the district CARINTHIA in the south of the country Austria, near by the border to
Slovenia and Italy.
In 2010 many women and two men created a geomantic Stone-circle that was crafted under the
guidance of Margan Kalb after her education and training by the Slovenian

Living in Harmony with Nature
Murshida Amat-un-Nur, the head of The Inayatiyya in South Asia, is a remarkable spiritual
guide dedicating her life to disseminating the universal teachings of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat
Inayat Khan. Beyond her administrative role, she is a gifted educator who facilitates
profound spaces for awakening. Her regular seminars and weekly zikr sessions traverse an
inspiring spectrum—from mysticism and quantum physics to interfaith harmony, healing

The Revolutionary Concept of Hayawān

Bird Analogies - from Ibn Arabi
To see oneself transformed into a bird indicates a soul’s capacity of spiritual ascension.
The type of bird indicates the specific quality of the journey. Ibn Arabi developed a
sophisticated dream interpretation system in which birds play a key role. A predator
indicates power. A songbird indicates intuitive knowledge. A water bird indicates
emotional depth.

his work the Universal Tree, Ibn Arabi describes the human spirit:
“The human spirit is like a bird whose head is knowledge of God.
Whose wings are reverence and hope.
Whose feet are constraint and fear.
Whose beak is acceptance of what comes from God.
Whose food is divine remembrance.
And whose nest is the heart that contains it."
Ibn Arabi explains the spiritual hierarchy using bird imagery.
“The ordinary believers are like ground dwelling birds that occasionally take flight. The
saints are like the birds that spend most of their time in the air, returning to earth
only when necessary. The prophets are like birds that soar continuously in the highest
reaches of the atmosphere, seeing all below with perfect clarity.”

medieval times, a rose window was round like the universe. This Imago Mundi, summing up
all human knowledge, is seen in the spectacular early rose window in Lausanne cathedral.
The stone tracery was built in about 1205, while the glass was placed in about 1230.
This stain glass window provides a rich resource for those with an interest in geometry
and iconography.

The Zodiac and the Divinatory Sciences
The outer circles, representing sepals arranged in a vertical cross, are each composed of
five medallions. They originally illustrated the twelve signs of the Zodiac, the four
Elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) and the four divinatory sciences drawn from the said
elements (Geomancy, Hydromancy, Aeromancy, Pyromancy). [A translation of one section of

The play of squares and circles, symbolising things material (finite) and things
immaterial and beyond (infinite)..
** The central square sybolised the Earth which interfaces with half-circles of repeating
time - ie the 4 seasons and the 12 months.
** Within the outer square is Paradise seen as a place but beyond time, with its weird
inhabitants.
** Paradise interfaces with the formative elements of the cosmos, earth, fire, air and
water, surrounded by signs of the zodiac and 2 of the prophecy-by-the-elements figures
(The other 2 seem to be lost)
** In the 8 outer trefoils are the Winds of Heaven that keep creation in being.
** The outer circle is the cosmos / heaven. [Some of these panels would seem to be
misplaced from their original positions]
