Liebe Weggefährtinnen und Weggefährten,

Viele von uns haben wertvolle Erinnerungen an die Abode of the Message. Wie Sie vielleicht wissen, hatte ich das Glück, dort aufzuwachsen und in späteren Jahren meine eigenen Kinder dort großzuziehen. Die ehrwürdigen Shaker-Gebäude der Abode, die nebligen Waldlichtungen, die üppige Farmf und der Garten sowie der häufig zugefrorene Teich haben einen einzigartigen Zauber. So viele von uns haben ihr Herz und ihre Fürsorge in dieses Land gesteckt und im Gegenzug idyllische Einblicke in das irdische Paradies erhalten. Wie Sie zweifellos gehört haben, wird der Besitz nun in andere Hände übergehen ) - ob innerhalb oder außerhalb der Sufi-Gemeinschaft, wissen wir noch nicht. Ich vertraue, wenn auch wachsam, darauf, dass sich ein wohlwollendes Schicksal vollzieht und dass alles gut werden wird. Ich möchte diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um den Mitgliedern des scheidenden Vorstands der Abode meine tiefe Anerkennung für ihre engagierte Leitung der Abode in den letzten fünf Jahren auszusprechen: Mahbub Davis, Gabriel Steadman, Aimée Johnson, Sarfaraz Dawdy, Nur Azad Mangold und Tajalli Roselli.*

Letzten Monat konnte ich nach Deutschland reisen, zum jährlichen Frühjahrs-Retreat in Gersfeld, ein Treffen, das in den letzten beiden Jahren aufgrund von Covid ausgesetzt worden war. Es war eine wahre Freude, alte Freundinnen und Freunde wieder zu treffen und neue in unserer Karawane willkommen zu heißen.

So Gott will, stehen in diesem Sommer weitere Reisen an. Wenn alles gut geht - wir alle lernen, nichts für selbstverständlich zu halten - werde ich im Juli die Türkei und die Schweiz  besuchen, und im August Frankreich und Holland. Ich hoffe, Sie an dem einen oder anderen Ort zu sehen, sei es in Bursa, im Tessin, in Issy-les-Moulineaux oder in Katwijk. Nachstehend finden Sie meinen Zeitplan für den Sommer und darüber hinaus.

Bald werden die aktuellen Suluk-Klassen ihren Abschluss machen. Der Graduiertenkurs Göttliche Kunst endet im Mai, und Na-Koja-Abad und Tuba haben ihre Abschlüsse im Juni und August. Es war eine schöne Erfahrung, sich in den letzten zwei Jahren regelmäßig online zum Studium und zur Praxis zu treffen, Jahre, die sich in vielerlei Hinsicht als höchst ungewöhnlich erwiesen. Im Herbst und Winter wird Suluk nicht stattfinden, aber ein neuer Online-Kurs ist für das Frühjahr 2023 geplant. Wenn Sie sich zu dem nächsten Kurs hingezogen fühlen, wenden Sie sich bitte an Isa Sophia: suluk@inayatiyya.org. Für viele ist Suluk der einfachste Weg in das Herz unserer Inneren Schule.

Währenddessen geht der Krieg in der Ukraine leider weiter. Vergessen wir niemals diejenigen, die leiden - in der Ukraine und überall auf der Welt - und arbeiten und beten wir weiter für Frieden, Liebe und Gerechtigkeit in der Welt und in uns selbst.

View this email in your browser The Zephyr Newsletter 18 May 2022 Dear Companions on the Path, Many of us have treasured memories of the Abode of the Message. As you may know, I had the good fortune of growing up there and, in later years, raising my own children there. There is a unique magic in the Abode’s venerable Shaker buildings, its misty forest glades, its lush farm and garden, and its frequently frozen pond. So many of us have poured our hearts and our care into the land and received, in turn, idyllic glimpses of the Earthly Paradise. Now, as you have no doubt heard, the ownership will pass to other hands – whether within the Sufi community or beyond it, we don’t yet know. I choose to trust, albeit with vigilance, that a benevolent destiny is working itself out, and that all will be well. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the members of the outgoing Abode Board for their dedicated stewardship of the Abode over the last five years: Mahbub Davis, Gabriel Steadman, Aimée Johnson, Sarfaraz Dawdy, Nur Azad Mangold, and Tajalli Roselli.* Last month I was able to visit Germany for the annual Spring Retreat in Gersfeld, a rendezvous that had been suspended the previous two years on account of Covid. It was a true pleasure to reunite with old friends, and to welcome new friends into our caravan. More travels await this summer, God willing. If all goes well – and we are all learning to take nothing for granted – I will visit Turkey and Switzerland in July, and France and Holland in August. I hope to see you in one place or another, whether in Bursa, Ticino, Issy-les-Moulineaux, or Katwijk. Please find my schedule for the summer and beyond below. Soon the current Suluk classes will be graduating. The Divine Art graduate course finishes in May, and Na-Koja-Abad and Tuba have their graduations in June and August. It has been a sweet experience meeting regularly online for study and practice over these last two years, years that proved highly unusual in so many ways. Autumn and winter will be fallow seasons for Suluk, but a new online course is planned for the spring of 2023. If you are drawn to join the next class, please contact Isa Sophia. For many, Suluk is the easiest route into the heart of our Inner School. Meanwhile, sadly, the war goes on in Ukraine. Let’s never forget those who are suffering – in Ukraine and all over the world – and let’s keep working and praying for peace, love, and justice on the horizons and in ourselves. Those who would like to read it may find “The Story of the Ripple” here. *As of May 2nd, the Abode has a new board—Sohrob Nabatian, Chair, Basir Yasi, Vice Chair, and Jennifer Alia Wittman, Secretary & Treasurer—designated to oversee the sale and transition of the property. An update about the Abode will be sent out within the next week.  Christopher Bamford, 1943-2022 Christopher Bamford left this world on the morning of Friday, May 13th. He will be deeply missed. Christopher was a respected and prolific writer and speaker, a Lindisfarne Fellow, a Guiding Voice for Seven Pillars House of Wisdom, a friend of the Abode and of the Inayatiyya, and a very dear friend of mine. What struck me from the first about Christopher was the gleam in his eye, suggestive of a perfect contentment with Being. I remember William Irwin Thompson describing his colleague to me as a “saintly rabbi.” Christopher’s saintliness was evident in his perpetual graciousness and humility. But considering that Christopher candidly professed the Christian faith – albeit in a mystical mode in which there was no hint of exclusivity – why did William call him a rabbi? I believe he was referring to Christopher’s vast erudition, which made his conversations fascinating midrashes that subtly unpacked centuries of philosophical and religious meaning. He wore his learning lightly, however, and was never intimidating. On the contrary, one always felt that he was simply speaking from his heart. Christopher will be remembered as one who eloquently spoke for the Earth. He wrote, with characteristic modesty and prescience combined, “Perhaps … it is time to explore not only our Masters’ ‘inner’ science, but also their science of Nature, which, because it is whole, includes, transcends, and erases all separations such as inner and outer.” My thoughts are with Christopher’s dear wife Betsy and their family. I plan to attend our beloved friend’s memorial service this afternoon. Truly we are God’s and to God we return.
