21 May 2025
Dear Companions on the Path,
Greetings of peace. I hope this finds you well.
The whole world is breathing a sigh of relief in the wake of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The ethical posture of
sulh-i kull (“peace with all”), which has an estimable history in South Asia, emphasizes the importance of fundamental goodwill between communities as a basis for mutually respectful problem-solving. In an age of nuclear arsenals and AI-guided drones,
this orientation is needed now more than ever before. The lives on both sides of every border are equally sacred.
We continue to pray for the safety and wellbeing of all those who are suffering in Palestine (where
many are tragically starving), Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan, and every other zone of conflict
or conquest in the world. May peace and justice prevail on every inch of the world’s soil, and may every child be fed, housed, and enabled to flourish.
Pope Francis has left the world. May the reverberation of all of the good work he did on Earth surround him as a melody in the hereafter. And may his successor,
Pope Leo XIV, abundantly succeed in the continuation of Pope Francis’ work for the elevation of the human conscience and the alleviation of suffering.
At
the kind invitation of Emina Abrahamsdottir and Amat-un-Nur Hayat, I recently visited Sarajevo, Bosnia, for a conference and pilgrimage entitled
The
Spring of Reflection. It was heartbreaking to hear detailed accounts of the ruthless massacres of civilians that occured in the region in the
early 1990s and to see the abiding scars of war on the buildings of Sarajevo. At the same time, it was inspiring to see the enduring spirit of the people and the wonderful vitality of the Sufi orders in Bosnia.
After
Bosnia I was in Germany for our annual spring retreat, the theme of which was Symbiosis: The Intertwining of Lives, Loves, and Lights. The spirit of symbiosis was certainly in the air—in the practices we did together, in the friendships that were renewed,
and in the manner in which, in various meetings, we approached the ongoing question of how we can most harmoniously and meaningfully work together in Germany, Europe, and the world at large.
The Inayatiyya International Board is currently stewarding the emergence of an updated model of collaboration for our worldwide organization. The aim is not centralization
but coherence—the way in which, for instance, in their various mutually-enhancing interactions bacteria, algae, fungi, archaea, viruses, and animals together create a thriving coral reef ecosystem. If you have inspirations related to the evolution of our organization
I encourage you to contact Farrukh Munawwir Thomas Aubepart of the IIB at

Summer is the “season of the rose” (vaqt-i gul),
a perfect time to meet in the garden of spirit. With this in mind, we will gather in June at
Omega
Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, U.S.A., and in July at
Fazal
Manzil in Suresnes, France, and at
Zenith
Camp in Bad Bevensen, Germany*. Do come!
Looking ahead to the fall,
a
new two-year Suluk class is now forming, to commence in September. This time the teachers will be, together with myself, Urs Qutbuddin Schellenberg
(Switzerland), Nizam un-Nisa Husain (Canada), Jacob Dominicus (United States) and Gulrukh Patel (United Kingdom). I am looking forward to working with this wonderful faculty and meeting the new group of Saliks. For those who seek to obtain a solid grounding
in the Inner School and to travel the path in companionship, Suluk may be the perfect next step.
Finally, I am pleased to share that my book
Tears from the Mother of the Sun, with art by the extraordinary Indian painter Amruta Patil, is now available for preorder from
Inner
Traditions. The book is scheduled for release in February, 2026.
In closing, I wish you peace. May peace prevail within us and around us, now and always, near and far.
Yours ever,
Pir Zia
* The retreat in Bad Bevensen is currently booked out. If you are interested in attending, you may join the waiting list or join online. Alternatively, I encourage
you to join me in the Netherlands in
August or in London in
September.

Please join us on this very special event, the 21st anniversary of Pir Vilayat’s passing from this world, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
During this session, we will give an update on the evolution of the Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan Archive and share a special meditation recording from the archive on the ecstasy available to us when freed from the prison of one’s “personality consciousness.”
Pir Zia will then guide us in a teaching on this theme. As a global community, we will unite within the space of Pir Vilayat’s sacred and cosmic vibrancy. This is a free, commemorative, meditative experience open to everyone.

Living in the World—A Sufi Retreat w/ Pir Zia and Friends
Omega Institute, Rhinebeck, New York
June 22nd - June 27th, 2025

An aim of Sufism is to learn and practice how to live in the world yet not of the world. Over five days, we will live in friendship and community, while
also exploring what it means to cultivate the inner qualities of stillness, of guidance, and of unity with all that exists.
In the mornings we will be in silence, and in the afternoons expand out into spiritual discourse, music, whirling, and zikr—all Sufi practices of sacred remembrance.
Pir Zia welcomes guest teachers Omid Safi, Ayeda Husain, Sara Tarana Jobin & Shams al Haqq Farzad Attar. This is our third year at Omega with a growing community of musicians, zakirs, whirlers, spiritual practitioners, and friends. All are invited and welcome
to join us! More

Discovering the Spirit of Guidance
w/ Pir Zia Inayat Khan
Zenith Camp, Bad Bevensen (Germany) & via Zoom
July 27th - August 2nd, 2025
|
|
Just as our bodies are particles of the universe in which we live, our minds are particles of the universal mind and our souls are particles of the universal
soul. And just as each cell contains the code of the whole body, each configuration of body, mind, and soul contains the imprint of the universal being and lives in ongoing communion with it, if only unconsciously.
When the human being makes this communion conscious, marvelous transformations occur. One then becomes part of the universe’s awakening to itself. In its function as the source of illumination in the life of individuals, communities, and species, the universal
being is called the Spirit of Guidance.
In this retreat we will contemplatively explore the nature of the Spirit of the Guidance and the meaning it holds for the unfoldment of the purpose of our lives.
